Is your fiery flair for hot chicken more than fabulous? Here is your chance to prove it by becoming one of six amateur contestants in the 8th annual Hot Chicken Festival Amateur Cooking Competition. There will be celebrity judges crowning the king and/or queen of hot chicken!

Based on applicant creativity and fiery flare, the Hot Chicken Festival committee will choose teams to cook and serve three (3) plates of Hot Chicken to our expert judges!

Selected contestants will check-in with Festival staff no later than Noon on July 4; cooking begins at 12:30pm. Contestants will furnish their own spices, serving dishes, cooking utensils, etc.

*All participants must be at least 18 years of age. All particpants must agree to to the use of your name/image for Festival promotional purposes. 

Our end of the deal...
  1. We'll provide the chicken, electricity, water and home-style electric deep fryers the for competition.
     
  2. The winner receives bragging rights for an entire year, a Hot Chicken Trophy and a will keep their brand-new deep fryer.

 

OFFICIAL RULES:

  • A team may be up to four (4) members but ONLY those involved in the cooking may be inside the cooking tent. All fans, friends and family MUST be outside of the tent for safety concerns.
  • You will be judged on how you interpret the infamous Nashville Hot Chicken. This means three elements: Bread, Hot Chicken and Pickle. While you may choose to be creative in how you present these three elements, nothing other than garnish may be presented. 
  • Should your presented Hot Chicken be undercooked, your team will be immediately disqualified.
  • You will be given four (4) large bone-in, skin-on chicken breasts prior to the start of the contest. Only three (3) must be cooked. The fryer will be plugged in and cooking oil is provided. 
  • You are encouraged to fill and preheat your fryer and you may marinate your chicken when you arrive, but no mixing, breading, cutting or cooking can begin prior to the official start time of the contest.
  • You are required to present three (3) finished pieces of Hot Chicken for judging. 
  • You are responsible for bringing the following:
  1. Utensils (including a meat thermometer)
  2. Bowls, dishes, gloves, towels, utensils, etc.
  3. Bread, seasonings/breading, pickles and anything that takes the plain chicken to HOT chicken.
  4. Plates or Platter for presenting your finished Hot Chicken 
  • You may not bring any alcohol into the cooking tent or festival grounds.
  • A warming box will be provided to hold your cooked chicken until judging.
  • We will have extra chicken should you choose to cook additional pieces for your friends, fans and family.
  • In the case of a tie, Judges will select a winner from the top teams.
